Michael Owen reacts to Roberto Firmino’s display in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 win over FC Porto
BT Sport pundit Michael Owen was impressed with Roberto Firmino's display in Liverpool FC's 2-0 win over FC Porto on Tuesday night
Michael Owen praised Roberto Firmino’s role in Liverpool FC’s opening goal in a 2-0 victory over FC Porto on Tuesday night.
The Reds broke the deadlock inside five minutes at Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Firmino managed to draw the FC Porto defence out of position to provide Naby Keita with the opportunity to find the net.
Keita’s strike was deflected past former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas as the summer signing scored in successive games.
Liverpool FC doubled their lead midway through the first half thanks to Firmino’s close-range finish.
However, former Reds striker Owen was full of praise for Firmino’s performance in the Champions League clash.
“What I really like about this goal is Firmino,” Owen told BT Sport.
“He knows a cross can’t come in. He helps his mate out. That’s why he scores 20 goals a season rather than 30 goals. He really gets the assist for the goal.”
Firmino has scored 15 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions this season to contribute to Liverpool FC’s title push in the Premier League and the Champions League.
Liverpool FC will welcome Chelsea FC in their next Premier League fixture at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds will make the return trip to FC Porto for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday 17 April.
