Jamie Carragher questions Jurgen Klopp about key Liverpool FC decision
Liverpool FC legend Jamie Carragher speaks of his surprise at Fabinho starting Sunday's clash against Spurs on the bench
Jamie Carragher has admitted that he was surprised Jurgen Klopp started Fabinho on the bench for Liverpool FC’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.
The Brazil international was named on the bench for the second time in three games as Klopp preferred James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum for the visit of Spurs.
The Liverpool FC boss has used the midfield combination for some of Liverpool FC’s toughest assignments in the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
Indeed, Henderson started ahead of Fabinho at Bayern Munich last month, only for the summer signing to replace the Liverpool FC captain due to injury at the Allianz Arena.
Fabinho went on to produce a stellar performance in the middle of the park to play a key role in the Merseyside outfit’s 3-1 victory over the Bundesliga side.
The former Real Madrid man impressed upon his introduction on Sunday afternoon, winning the ball back on three occasions in his 13-minute cameo at Anfield.
Toby Alderweireld’s late own goal sealed a 2-1 victory for the Premier League leaders after Lucas Moura had cancelled out Roberto Firmino’s opening goal.
Ex-Liverpool FC defender Carragher admitted that he was shocked Klopp didn’t start Fabinho against Tottenham.
“I think Fabinho’s possibly Liverpool’s best player since the turn of the year, and I think he made a big difference when he came on,” Carragher told Sky Sports on Sunday.
“It was a big surprise (that he didn’t start).
“Since he came on, his passing and how he wins the ball back – he made a difference – so I expect to see him between now and the end of the season.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
