Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool FC being behind Manchester City in the title race could be a good thing for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Merseyside outfit squandered their lead at the top of the Premier League table following a goalless draw with Everton last month.

Liverpool FC started the weekend in top spot with a two-point advantage, but Manchester City had played one game less than their title rivals.

The Citizens eased to a straightforward 2-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage to hoist themselves into first position ahead of Liverpool FC’s home clash with Tottenham.

Manchester City won’t make up their game in hand until they make the trip to Manchester United in their derby meeting at Old Trafford on Wednesday 24 April.

Liverpool FC have appeared to struggle with the pressure of setting the pace in the Premier League title race at times this season to raise questions about their credentials.

Former Reds defender Carragher believes trailing Manchester City could suit Liverpool FC in the remaining months of the Premier League season.

“I think the pressure has come off Liverpool slightly because I think everyone expects City to win the league now,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“It may not be the worst thing in the world if City go in front. If you’re up there, you’re there to be shot at.

“There were lots of questions being thrown at Liverpool and they weren’t really answering them. For two or three weeks they had a lot of draws in games.

“Since City have gone in front, Liverpool have had a decent little run of winning games, but they need to continue that now.”

Carragher was part of the Liverpool FC team that finished in second place in 2002 and 2009 under Gerard Houllier and Rafael Benitez.

The Reds have finished in fourth place in their last two Premier League seasons.
