Philippe Coutinho sends message to Liverpool FC fans about Jurgen Klopp
FC Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho heaps praise on Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp
Philippe Coutinho has hailed Jurgen Klopp as a great manager following Liverpool FC’s improved performances this season.
The Reds are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and two points ahead of defending champions Manchester City.
Coutinho left Liverpool FC to secure a long-awaited move to FC Barcelona in the 2018 January transfer window.
The Merseyside outfit used the £142m generated by Coutinho’s sale to fund the signing of Virgil van Dijk in a world-record deal for a defender.
The Dutch centre-half has helped Liverpool FC to improve immeasurably at the back since his big-money switch from Southampton.
Liverpool FC were 3-1 aggregate winners against Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 to set up a quarter-final tie with FC Porto.
The winner of that fixture could possibly face La Liga leaders FC Barcelona, who will need to get past Manchester United in the last eight.
Coutinho has admitted that he has been impressed with Liverpool FC’s performances since his departure.
“Let’s see, I hope it [a fixture against Liverpool FC] happens, but we have a big game first at Old Trafford,” Coutinho is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“What I can say is that I’m glad that Liverpool are doing well this year and, if the draw had been different, I would have liked to play the Champions League final against them.
“Klopp is a great coach and it was only a matter of time before he got the team performing the way they are.
“They are having an incredible season. But so are we – and I am focused first on Barcelona.”
Liverpool FC were 3-1 winners against Southampton on Friday night thanks to goals from Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson.
The Reds will take on Chelsea FC at Anfield in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday 14 April.
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title in their history but have finished second on three occasions.
