Jurgen Klopp: What I like about Mo Salah at Liverpool FC
Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp talks up Mohamed Salah's consistency after the Egypt international's 50th league goal
Jurgen Klopp has highlighted Mo Salah’s consistency as one of his strengths after the Liverpool FC star netted his 50th Premier League goal in Friday night’s 3-1 win at Southampton.
Salah had failed to score in his last eight outings before the Premier League title challengers made the long trip to the south coast to take on the Saints.
The Egypt international made a vital contribution to Liverpool FC’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend after he forced Hugo Lloris into an error which resulted in Toby Alderweireld’s added-time own goal.
However, Salah had failed to find the net since a 3-0 victory over Southampton’s south coast rivals Bournemouth at Anfield at the start of February.
Liverpool FC were facing the prospect of more dropped points on Friday night after Naby Keita cancelled out Shane Long’s opening goal but the visitors were struggling to find a winner.
But Salah produced a special moment after he started a counter-attack inside his own half and ran with the ball into the opposition’s area before he finished past Angus Gunn.
His solo goal was his 50th Premier League goal as Salah followed in the footsteps of other great Liverpool FC strikers such as Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres.
Speaking at his post-match media conference, Klopp gave his thoughts on Salah’s milestone goal.
“It was never in doubt about being a great player from my side,” Klopp said.
“It was [Premier League] goal No.50 I heard for Liverpool, that’s an incredible number.
“As a striker, you have chances and each striker is a human being – maybe you have better moments and less good moments. But he is pretty consistent, his physical things are always there. It’s normal, you have to adapt to the situation.
“He always stayed calm to deal with the situation. It’s only around us that it’s a big thing, we don’t really care about it. But it’s a nice moment for the first goal after a while, a really good moment.”
