The Reds are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table and two points clear of Manchester City, who have played a game less than the Merseysiders.
Manchester City can reclaim top spot in the Premier League on Wednesday night if they are able to beat derby rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford in the top flight.
Liverpool FC will then return to Premier League action on Friday night when they host Huddersfield Town at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been earning lots of praise for their fantastic attacking performances this season, and they have also improved considerably in defence since last term.
Former Liverpool FC star Rush feels that the title race will go down to the wire, and he says it is crucial that the Reds stay composed in the final few weeks of the season.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Rush said: “The title race will go down to the wire, there is no doubt about that.
“There are just a few games to go and as long as they keep winning they are one step closer, but I think they are starting to believe now that it can be done.
“People are saying all the fans are getting excited, but why not? Why shouldn’t they be excited? If they don’t get excited now, they’ll never get excited!
“The most important thing is that the players – with the help of the coaching staff and the manager – keep their feet on the ground.
“I think the team is a bit more resistant now and you can see that in the way they’ve come back from a goal down to win a game quite a few times this season
“They’ve got a winning formula and there is no need to change anything.”
Liverpool FC are aiming to win their first major trophy this season since Jurgen Klopp’s appointment back in 2015.
The Reds are going to take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals next month.
