James Milner hails Liverpool FC star’s ‘fantastic’ recent displays
James Milner singles out Jordan Henderson for special praise after his impressive recent Liverpool FC displays
James Milner has heaped praise on Jordan Henderson following his impressive recent performances for Liverpool FC.
Henderson has been deployed in a more advanced midfield role by Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in recent weeks and he has been in solid form, notching up the assist for Sadio Mane’s opener in the 2-0 win over Chelsea FC last weekend.
The 28-year-old England international has seen his first-team opportunities in the Premier League somewhat limited this season, with Henderson having only started 17 games in the top flight so far this season.
However, he has been in impressive form in recent weeks and Milner has been hugely impressed by what he has seen from Henderson of late.
Speaking at a news conference before the Champions League trip to FC Porto on Wednesday night, Milner said of Henderson: “Fantastic. We know how good he is.
“He’s been asked to do a job for the team and we know he’ll do anything he’s asked – whether he’s asked to play in goal, he’ll do that. That’s obviously the sign of a great leader.
“He’s been playing fantastic in the last few years at No.6, [but] maybe you don’t get as many goals and assists there because you’re performing for the team, breaking down attacks and starting the play off. So maybe you don’t get as many headlines there.
“People are seeing how well he is playing there, but he’s been playing equally as good as a No.6 as well.
“It’s great to see him maybe getting a bit more recognition now. He’s fantastic for us, he’s a great leader and some of the performances he’s put in recently at such a big stage of the season shows what a good player he is and what a big influence he is on the team.”
Liverpool FC will now switch their focus back to Premier League affairs and their trip to Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds are currently two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, but have played a game more than the Citizens, who will host Tottenham at The Etihad on Saturday lunchtime.
