Gary Lineker reacts as Tottenham beat Man City to reach Champions League semi-finals
BT Sport host Gary Lineker has his say on a pulsating Champions League quarter-final clash at The Etihad
Gary Lineker was quick to celebrate Fernando Llorente’s decisive goal as Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester City on away goals to reach the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night.
Spurs made the long trip to the Etihad Stadium after Son Heung-min scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over the defending Premier League champions in the first leg at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week.
Manchester City levelled the quarter-final clash on aggregate when Raheem Sterling broke the deadlock in the fourth minute to seemingly hand control of the tie back to the hosts.
However, Son scored two quick-fire goals to give Tottenham a 2-1 lead with 79 minutes of the second leg still left to pay.
In what was a crazy first half at Eastlands, Bernardo Silva levelled 60 seconds after Son’s second goal before Raheem Sterling’s effort in the 21st minute left Manchester City requiring one more goal to secure an aggregate lead.
Sergio Aguero netted Manchester City’s fourth goal in 59th minute to seemingly put the Citizens in the last four, but Tottenham substitute Fernando Llorente netted the vital goal to level the tie at 4-4.
There was late drama when Sterling had a winner ruled out for offside in added time by VAR.
Spurs legend Lineker couldn’t disguise his delight at Llorente’s decisive goal that secured Tottenham’s place in the Champions League semi-finals for the first time.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “4-3. Hip-hip hooray.”
He added: “This game is fantastic. Thoughts at this time are with all those that don’t like football.”
