Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives latest Man United injury update on Marcus Rashford
Manchester United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals Marcus Rashford has suffered an ankle injury
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Marcus Rashford suffered a knock in training that forced the striker to sit out Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Wolves on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils were looking to move into the top four with a vital mid-week victory to put pressure on Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur in the top four race.
Rashford has scored three times in his last four games in all competitions to hit top form at a vital stage of the Premier League season.
However, the 21-year-old was a noticeable absentee as Romelu Lukaku started in a lone striker role with support from Jesse Lingard at Molineux.
Diogo Jota’s strike and Chris Smalling’s own goal cancelled out Scott McTominay’s first-half opener to seal a 2-1 win for Wolves.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Rashford’s absence before the defeat, Manchester United manager Solskjaer confirmed that the England international was sidelined with an injury.
“Yeah, he got a knock again, but it’s a different ankle, it’s not the same ankle luckily,” Solskjaer said. “He’ll be sorely missed”
He added: “We tried to get him [Marcus] fit but he didn’t make it so, hopefully we can mend him for the next game.”
Rashford has scored nine of his 10 Premier League goals under Solskjaer after the Norwegian head coach took over the reins on an interim basis back in December.
The Red Devils confirmed their former striker as Jose Mourinho’s permanent replacement last week ahead of Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Watford.
Manchester United will host West Ham in their next Premier League game on Saturday 13 April.
