Andy Cole sends message to Man United about Marcus Rashford
Man United legend Andy Cole believes Marcus Rashford should be the focal point of the Red Devils team
Andy Cole has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to build the Manchester United team around Marcus Rashford.
The England international broke the deadlock in Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Watford at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Rashford has now scored 10 goals in 26 games in the Premier League this season to help the Red Devils challenge for a top-four finish.
Manchester United manager Solskjaer has helped to bring out the best in the England international since he took over the reins from Jose Mourinho back in December.
Rashford has netted nine of his 10 league goals since Solskjaer became manager to highlight the Norwegian’s impact on the England striker.
Ex-Manchester United forward Cole believes his former team-mate should build the Red Devils team around Rashford.
“Rashford has got all of the ability in the world but you could tell his confidence was waning under the previous manager, it was getting lower and lower,” Cole told Sky Sports.
“Ole has gone in there and said to him ‘we all know how good you are, just believe in yourself’, and he’s done that.
“When Rashford first came into the team we all knew what he could do. He kind of went away from that a little but now he’s back doing what he’s good at.”
Cole added: “He came out the other day and said he was prepared to sign a new contract, so he’s telling everyone he wants to stay not only for the short haul but the long haul.
“You’ve got to build your team around the local boys, I was fortunate to do that in my time at Manchester United. Rashford will be one of the mainstays at the football club.”
The England international has scored 13 times and has made six assists in 37 games in all competitions in the current campaign.
Rashford scored the winning penalty in Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes last month.
Manchester United will take on La Liga giants FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals, starting next week.
Rashford is in a rich vein of form after three goals in his last four games in all competitions to hit top gear at a crucial part of the season.
