Paul Ince: What Man United must do to get best out of Paul Pogba

Paul Ince believes Manchester United need to sign more players of Paul Pogba’s quality to get the best out of the Manchester United star.

The France international has been criticised over the past month for some underwhelming performances in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

Pogba has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks following Zinedine Zidane’s appointment as the club’s new manager.

The transfer speculation has coincided with reports that Pogba’s relationship with Manchester United manager Solskjaer has cooled.

Pogba produced an underwhelming performance in Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

However, former Manchester United midfielder Ince has defended Pogba’s contribution, insisting that the Red Devils need to surround the Frenchman with better players.

“People will talk about Paul Pogba and say he should’ve done more,” Ince told Paddy Power.

“But there’s only so much he can do when he’s surrounded by the kind of players he is. If he was surrounded by class players, you’d get to see the real Pogba.

“I was fortunate enough to play with the likes of Bryan Robson, Roy Keane and Eric Cantona – world class players – and they make everyone play better.

“United can’t just rely on Pogba and expect that he will do everything, people have to pull their weight and be great around him. Pogba needs and deserves to be in a team full of top players, and I don’t believe that’s Man United at the minute.”

Manchester United re-signed Pogba from Juventus in a club record £89m deal in the 2016 summer transfer window.

Pogba has won the Europa League and the League Cup since his return to Old Trafford but Manchester United haven’t won the Champions League or the Premier League.

The World Cup winner will finish with his best return for an individual season at Old Trafford, having scored 13 goals and made nine assists this term.

Manchester United will make the trip to Everton in their next Premier League clash on Sunday.
