The France international has been used in a variety of different midfield roles over the past month or so as Solskjaer tinkers with his team.
Pogba excelled in a deeper role in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford after the World Cup winner scored twice from the penalty spot.
However, the World Cup winner was ineffective in Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to La Liga side FC Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final last week.
Pogba has been inconsistent throughout much of the Premier League season to raise questions about the club-record signing’s happiness at Old Trafford, and he was unable to prevent United from slipping to a demoralising 4-0 loss to Everton on Sunday.
Solskjaer was initially able to extract some top performances from Pogba, but the French midfielder’s level has dropped over the past couple of months.
However, the Manchester United manager vowed to continue to vary Pogba’s position in the Red Devils team in order to throw off opposition teams.
“Everyone has got an opinion on Paul. And of course together with Paul we have sat down and discussed his positioning,” Solskjaer told his news conference at Carrington on Friday before the defeat by Everton.
“We know he can play a 10, we know he can play a 6, we know he can play in probably his preferred position as one of the three in midfield, high like he did for us at the beginning, like he has done with Juventus.
“With France he has played as one of the two sitters, or one of the two central midfielders, with Kante. So that is the great thing with Paul, he can do both and what we have to to do with all the players is adjust to the games, what that game needs.
“Some games have needed Paul to drop back, sometimes it has needed him high up the field. You can see teams now thinking more about what Paul’s position is and trying to stop him in that position.
“He is no different to others in that we tweak his position a little bit for the team’s benefit.”
Naturally given his undoubted talent, Pogba has been linked with a big money move to Spain in the summer to leave Manchester United sweating about his future.
The Red Devils will take on Manchester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
