Alan Shearer has taken to social media to claim that Everton “wanted it a lot more” than Manchester United after the Toffees claimed a crushing 4-0 win over the Red Devils.

Manchester United were thoroughly outplayed as the Red Devils slumped to a humiliating loss at Goodison Park as they succumbed to their sixth defeat in eight games in all competitions.

Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and substitute Theo Walcott were the goal-scorers for Everton as the Merseysiders continued their impressive home form by following up recent wins over Arsenal and Chelsea FC at Goodison Park.

The result leaves Manchester United in sixth place in the Premier League table and facing an uphill battle to finish in the top four this season.

And former England striker Shearer clearly felt that the Toffees showed far more desire than the visiting team on Sunday afternoon.

Shearer wrote on Twitter after the game: “Well done @Everton you wanted it a lot more. #EVEMUN.”

Meanwhile, former defender Danny Higginbotham was clearly not impressed by the manner of Manchester United’s performance.

Higginbotham wrote on Twitter: “Everton have been excellent but as a supporter this is one of the worst performances I’ve seen in a long time.

“Anybody that thinks this is a quick fix is well off the mark. Solskjaer needs to be given what’s needed and backed properly to make the decisions he wants to in summer.”

Manchester United do not have long to dust themselves down as they prepare for their home Premier League clash against derby rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
