Juan Mata is considering his options before deciding whether to sign a new contract at Manchester United, according to the playmaker’s father.

The Spanish playmaker’s future at Old Trafford has been a source of speculation of late because his current deal is set to expire this summer.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mata is keen to seal a two-year deal to stay at the club – and that has proved to be a sticking point in negotiations.

Mata would be able to leave Manchester United on a free transfer in the summer if he does not sign a new deal with the Red Devils.

Now, the player’s father has confirmed that the playmaker has offers from other clubs.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Juan Mata Senior said: “Manchester United have offered to renew us, we are very happy.

“But there are proposals from Champions League teams. Spain, maybe, but today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided.”

The 30-year-old Mata has seen his first-team opportunities somewhat limited this season.

He has scored two goals and made two assists in the Premier League this term, but he has only started 13 games in the top flight so far.

Mata will be hoping to feature when Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday night with a home clash against West Ham United.
