Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends message to Man United fans about Anthony Martial
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer delivers an update on Anthony Martial ahead of Man United's trip to Cardiff City
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he has held talks with Anthony Martial to try and help coax the best form out of the forward.
The 23-year-old featured for 65 minutes as Manchester United were dumped out of the Champions League by FC Barcelona last week.
The Red Devils were thoroughly outplayed as they suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss to the Catalan side at Camp Nou to end their Champions League hopes for another season on Tuesday last week.
Lionel Messi scored two fine goals before Philippe Coutinho added a third to wrap up a complete victory for the Spanish side.
Martial has scored 10 goals and made two assists in 24 Premier League games so far this season but he has only scored twice in his last two outings.
And Solskjaer has delivered an update on Martial ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Cardiff City on Sunday.
Solskjer is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “I’ve spoken to individuals and they know. Anthony is one I’ve spoken to. I’ve spoken to all of them individually about what we expect from them.
“Anthony has got massive talent, he has signed a new contract, he knows we believe in him. Just keep on working. Anyone who plays for Manchester United has to deliver to stay in the squad and the team.
“Anthony is no different to Rashy [Marcus Rashford], Rom [Romelu Lukaku], Alexis [Sanchez] or the many forwards we have to choose from.
“That’s the great thing about it now – it’s down to the players and the ownership they take coming back to pre-season.”
The loss to FC Barcelona has left Manchester United just playing for a top-four finish this season as they bid to secure their place in next season’s Champions League.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are now preparing to return to Premier League action as they gear up to face Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.
