Jose Mourinho has singled out Scott McTominay for special praise after his fine performance in Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to FC Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The young midfielder played the full 90 minutes at Old Trafford and put in an impressive performance as the Red Devils slumped to a disappointing loss in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was amongst the pundits to have praised McTominay for his mature performance during the Champions League clash this week.

Now, former Manchester United manager Mourinho has weighed in with his own opinion after having been impressed by McTominay’s performance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men against FC Barcelona.

Speaking on punditry duty for Russia Today, as quoted by Metro, Mourinho said: “Barcelona was not Barcelona [on Wednesday night].

“I think United had one player that was responsible for that because I think Scott McTominay in midfield he was like what I used to call – but when I use this expression it’s obviously in the total positive sense of the word – he was a mad dog.

“Afraid of nobody. Imposing his respect. Pressing really hard with a huge range of movement a huge area of pressing.

“Pressing higher and creating problems in Barcelona building up then really aggressive on the duels.”

Manchester United will dust themselves down and attempt to return to winning ways on Saturday evening when they host West Ham United at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils currently find themselves in sixth place in the Premier League table as they aim to try and break back into the top four before the season is out.

Manchester United will travel to Camp Nou for the return leg of their Champions League clash on Tuesday night.
