The Red Devils are bound to be linked with a host of players this summer as the Norwegian prepares for his first full season in charge of the Old Trafford outfit.
Manchester United moved to appoint Solskjaer as their new permanent manager in recent weeks after his impressive start as Jose Mourinho’s interim replacement.
Attentions will now inevitably begin to turn towards the summer transfer window and the players the Red Devils could look to bring in.
However, a number of Manchester United players could also be on their way out of Old Trafford this summer.
And Solskjaer has now appeared to hint that there could be a lot of exits this summer as he plans an overhaul of his squad at Old Trafford.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Solskjaer said: “I’m under no illusions that this is not going to be plain sailing.
“It’s going to be hard, as I said before it’s survival of the fittest and also survival of the best and that’s how ruthless we have to be.
“We need players who are going to be able to take us forward and that means the culture in the dressing room.
“What we do every single day here to make us challenging again, because Liverpool and City are two teams that are too far ahead at the moment from what we like.
“We played against a Barcelona team which are one of the teams, that set the standard in European football and we are under no illusions that it’s going to be hard work and there’s going to be some tough decisions made by me, Mike (Phelan) and the club.”
Manchester United are aiming to finish in the top four this season and qualify for next term’s Champions League.
The Red Devils will travel to FC Barcelona for the return leg of their quarter-final clash at Camp Nou on Tuesday night after losing the first leg 1-0 last week.
