Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told his Manchester United players that they have to win their remaining four games in the Premier League to have any hope of a top-four finish this season.

The Red Devils slumped to a demoralising and damaging 4-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon to severely hamper their hopes of Champions League qualification.

The defeat was Manchester United’s sixth loss in their last eight games in all competitions and it left them facing an uphill battle to break back into the top four.

Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea FC and Manchester United are all vying for the final two Champions League qualification spots this season.

And Solskjaer has admitted that the Red Devils are likely to have to win all four of their games if they want to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top four.

Speaking in an interview quoted by the Daily Mirror, Solskjaer said: “We’re way off where we want to be.

“When you lose in the league like we did here, everyone sees that we have a big job to do.

“This club has been down before, we’ve just got to pick ourselves up. It might not happen overnight, but it’s going to happen.

“You want to see the team express themselves. The goals were easy, we were sloppy on the ball. We cannot hide, we just have to step up and say we have to improve.

“We have to win all four games, then we might have a chance [of finishing in the top four]. It’s a big ask, but we can do it. We can’t just talk about it, we’ve got to do it.”

Manchester United will now switch their attentions towards their Premier League showdown with derby rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils are only playing for a top-four finish this season after they were beaten 4-0 by FC Barcelona on aggregate in the Champions League quarter-finals.
