Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his Manchester United players that there is massive room for improvement as they prepare for their Champions League showdown with FC Barcelona next week.

Solskjaer watched his side slip to a disappointing 2-1 loss to Wolves in the Premier League on Tuesday night as they suffered a damaging defeat in the race for Champions League qualification.

Manchester United’s loss at Molineux left the Red Devils in sixth place in the Premier League table as the top-four race enters into its final few weeks.

The Red Devils now have the weekend off to lick their wounds as they prepare for their crunch showdown in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash with FC Barcelona at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

And Solskjaer, who was appointed as the club’s new permanent manager last week, admits that the Red Devils have lots of room for improvement.

Speaking in an interview with Manchester United’s website, Solskjaer said: “Oh, many, many things we have to improve, of course, because they are a top, top side.

“But we’ll use one or two days now to analyse and recover.

“And we’ll prepare for Barcelona, which will be a fantastic challenge for the club and for the team.”

Quizzed about the loss to Wolves, he continued: “You can’t control the result. We can control what we do on the pitch, performance wise, and we’ve played well enough tonight [Tuesday]. We created enough chances to win the game.

“So, I don’t think there’s any kick-back or re-setting to be fair. I was very pleased with the amount of chances, and the intent with the way we started the game.

“You cannot stop players from playing, or trying, and if there’s a mistake to be done then that happens, and that’s football.”

Manchester United are aiming to finish in the top four this season after they ended up second and without a trophy under Jose Mourinho last term.
