Robbie Savage believes Manchester United should target five big names in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are bound to be linked with a host of players in the summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to put his stamp on the Old Trafford outfit following his appointment as permanent manager.

The Norwegian head coach enjoyed great success as their temporary boss but there is no doubt that Solskjaer needs more additions to take Manchester United to the next level.

Manchester United have been regularly linked with Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho in recent months, so it’s not surprise to see Savage list the former Manchester City man as a player who would improve the team.

The Red Devils have faced questions about their defence this season, which explains why the BBC Sport and BT Sport pundit has included Napoli centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly and Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in his list.

Nemanja Matic is entering the twilight of his career and Savage feels that defensive midfield is also an area where Manchester United need some additions, suggesting Marco Verratti and surprisingly, N’Golo Kante.

Savage told the Daily Mirror: “We can all compile fantasy football wish-lists where money is no object, but I will start the ball rolling with these five suggestions: Kalidou Koulibaly, N’Golo Kante, Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marco Verratti.”

He added: “Kante has won the Premier League with Leicester and Chelsea already, and who’s to say he could not be tempted by a possible tilt at a third medal at Old Trafford?

“Yes, the best holding midfielder in the world would cost big money, as would Dortmund’s rising England star Sancho and Crystal Palace full-back Wan-Bissaka, but quality doesn’t come cheap.

“Those five might cost upwards of £350m. So to balance the books some of those names on the ‘available’ list would have to be sold to offset some of the expense.”

Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table as they aim to qualify for next season’s Champions League via a top-four finish.

The Red Devils will take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
