BBC Sport pundit states his prediction for Man United v West Ham
Liverpool FC legend Mark Lawrenson is tipping Man United to ease past West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to ease to a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils will be eager to seize their chance to make up some ground on their top-four rivals given that Arsenal and Chelsea FC aren’t in action until later in the weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in sixth place in the table and five points adrift of third-placed Chelsea FC in the race to secure one of the final two Champions League spots.
Manchester United lost 2-0 to Arsenal at The Emirates last month before they continued their poor away form with a 2-1 defeat by Wolves at Molineux last week.
The Champions League hasn’t brought much joy for Manchester United either, after the Red Devils slumped to a 1-0 loss to FC Barcelona in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
West Ham have been on a poor run of their own following four losses in their last six games in the Premier League to leave the Hammers languishing in mid-table.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to ease to a straightforward victory over West Ham on Saturday evening.
“West Ham lost again on Monday although they at least had a bit of a go in the second half at Chelsea,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Manchester United were well beaten in midweek by a Barcelona side who kept them at arm’s length.
“United’s performances in their home defeats against Barca, Paris St-Germain and Juventus have shown how far they are off the top clubs in Europe.
“They should still have too much for the Hammers, though.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013, and they’ve only managed to finish in the top four twice since their last top-flight triumph.
