The north London side are likely to be linked with a host of names in the coming weeks and months as Unai Emery begins to look towards the summer transfer window as a chance to bolster his squad.
The Gunners are outsiders to finish in the top four this season, with Emery’s men currently fifth and behind Chelsea FC in fourth with two games left to play in the Premier League.
The transfer funds available to Emery will likely be determined by whether Arsenal are able to book their spot in the Champions League for next season.
However, former Arsenal man Campbell seems to think that Emery will be focused on signing useful players rather than opting for star names.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Express, Campbell said: “I think Unai Emery knows what he wants already.
“He’s very meticulous in his planning and if I’ve gathered anything from listening to him and seeing how he prepares, he will know the targets he wants to attract.
“It may not be these star names, the world class players, but Arsenal could do with some functionality and being tough to beat and having players that will put a shift in.
“It’s not the name on the back of the shirt, it’s more the front of the shirt and the heart to get the team moving forward.
“Unai Emery is going to batten down the hatches and bring in an influx of players that are going to be functional for him.”
Arsenal will return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host Brighton and Hove Albion in the top flight.
The north London side are aiming to sneak back into the top four before the season is out as they look to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
