David Luiz has expressed his delight at having signed a new contract with Chelsea FC to keep him at the west London club until 2021.

Chelsea FC confirmed on Friday that he had penned a new deal to keep the Brazilian defender at Stamford Bridge for the next two years.

The defender has been a consistent performer in Maurizio Sarri’s first campaign in charge and he has made more than 45 appearances in all competitions for the Blues.

The west London side booked their place in the Europa League final last week with a dramatic penalty shootout win over Eintracht Frankfurt at Stamford Bridge.

And David Luiz has revealed his delight at having helped the Blues to set up a Europa League final showdown with Arsenal in Baku on 29 May.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Chelsea FC’s website, David Luiz said: “I am so happy to be here and to have this opportunity to stay. I love this club and I still have the ambition of a young player.

“It means a lot to reach another European final – and I will continue to try to do my best to help the team.”

Now that the Premier League season is over, Chelsea FC will switch their focus towards preparing for their crunch clash with Arsenal on 29 May as they aim to finish Sarri’s first season in charge with a trophy.

Chelsea FC will be out for revenge over the Gunners after Arsenal beat them in last season’s FA Cup final.
