Manchester City managed to overcome an early setback following Glenn Murray’s goal to seal a 4-1 victory over 17th-placed Brighton at Amex Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side managed to retain their Premier League crown despite Liverpool FC’s nearly flawless season.
The Reds can still get their hands on their first piece of silverware under Jurgen Klopp if Liverpool FC beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final next month.
Manchester United, meanwhile, suffered a humuliating 2-0 loss to relegated Cardiff City in their final Premier League fixture of the season.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher was quick to find comfort in Manchester United’s misery in what proved to be anti-climatic day for Reds supporters.
Carragher wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations to Man City worthy winners of the PL, great effort from LFC & 1 more win away from number 6 don’t forget! Man United can’t beat Cardiff & the blues are as bad as ever!! #UpTheReds”
Liverpool FC are looking to win the European Cup for the sixth time when the Reds taken on Spurs in the Champions League showpiece on Saturday 1 June.
