Sterling spent five years at Liverpool FC before he completed a £51m move to Manchester City in the 2015 summer transfer window.
The England international admitted that he was pleased to see his former club reach the Champions League final.
“I was really happy for Liverpool, I was buzzing,” Sterling is quoted as saying by Metro.
“People might not believe me but it’s true. Seeing some of the boys like Hendo and Trent in the final makes me happy, I’m really happy for them.”
Sterling won the FWA’s Player of the Year award on Thursday night to cap a special season for the Manchester City forward.
The England forward has netted 23 goals in 47 games in all competitions for the Citizens.
