The Netherlands international has established himself as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in European football over the past 12 months or so.
De Ligt was lauded for his performances and role in helping Ajax to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in over two decades this term.
The 19-year-old was instrumental at the back as the Dutch club managed to secure famous Champions League victories at Serie A giants Juventus and La Liga side Real Madrid.
However, Tottenham came from 2-0 down to beat Ajax 3-2 in the Champions League last four to end the Eredivisie outfit’s incredible run.
De Ligt has been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past few months, with clubs such as Liverpool FC and Manchester United touted as potential destinations for the teenager.
Spanish football expert Balague has now confirmed that Liverpool FC have held discussions with De Ligt about a potential move to Anfield, although there is also interest from PSG and FC Barcelona.
“They [FC Barcelona] think they have De Ligt, even though both Liverpool and PSG have also been talking to him,” Balague told BBC Radio 5 Live.
De Ligt’s international team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum are currently at Liverpool FC.
The Ajax star is Van Dijk’s centre-half partner in the Netherlands national team.
Van Dijk won the PFA player of the year award this term.
