The Spanish goalkeeper has found himself under the spotlight at Old Trafford in recent games after a worrying dip in form from the shot-stopper.
De Gea was at fault for Chelsea FC’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw with the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as they dropped two crucial points in the Premier League top four race.
The goalkeeper’s future at Old Trafford has been a talking point in recent months, with his current contract set to expire at the end of next season.
However, Spanish football expert Balague does not believe that De Gea’s contract situation is the main issue.
Instead, Balague believes that De Gea’s dip in form is simply the result of being at the same club for such a long period of time, after having joined the Red Devils back in 2011.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Football Index ambassador Balague said: “This is not about Manchester United, because if he had not been at Manchester United and Manchester United came in for him, he’d be like ‘why not? Brilliant.’
“But it’s been a long time in the same place and sometimes your mind plays games with you.
“You want to perform but sometimes you’re not able to do it as consistently as you wanted to because something in the mind is missing.
“It’s not so much the contractual situation, it’s just that it’s been so long in the same place and, yes, I do believe it’s time for him to move on and get to the level that we know he can get to.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United will return to Premier League action this weekend when they travel to Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils currently find themselves in sixth place in the Premier League table with two games left to play.
