Matthijs de Ligt breaks silence after Man United and Liverpool FC speculation
Matthijs de Ligt has his say on the speculation linking him with a move away from Ajax this summer
Matthijs de Ligt remained coy when quizzed about his future after the recent speculation linking him with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool FC.
The Ajax captain has been heavily linked with a move away from the Dutch club this summer, and both of the Premier League clubs have been touted as possible destinations for the 19-year-old in recent months.
De Ligt has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for Ajax this season, and he scored three goals and made one assist in 32 appearances in the Dutch top flight this term.
The central defender was unable to prevent Ajax from slipping to a disappointing 3-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League semi-finals last week.
And the teenager was giving nothing away when quizzed about his future at the weekend.
Asked if he has played his final game for Ajax, De Ligt is quoted as saying by Metro: “I don’t know yet.
“There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement.”
Liverpool FC and Manchester United are both likely to be on the lookout for some new signings this summer as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
Manchester United especially will be keen to shore up their defence after they finished in sixth place in the Premier League and endured a season to forget.
