ESPN is reporting that the Red Devils are keen on making a move to sign the 21-year-old this summer as Ole Gunner Solskjaer sets about bolstering his squad at Old Trafford.
The same story says that the Red Devils are looking to sign at least one new midfielder in the summer transfer window as Solskjaer prepares for his first full season in charge.
However, the article says that Newcastle United have “no desire” to sell Longstaff, who is under contract at St James’ Park until 2022.
It is also reported in the story that Manchester United are yet to agree a fee to sign Longstaff, but there is “hope” that a deal can be arranged.
Longstaff was limited to just nine Premier League appearances this season, scoring one goal for the Magpies.
The same story says that Manchester United are planning an “extensive overhaul” of their squad this summer as they look to try and transform themselves back into title contenders for next season.
The Red Devils will be looking to replace Ander Herrera, and there is also doubt over Paul Pogba’s future at the club, according to the report.
