Ed Woodward misses out on first Man United summer signing – report
Man United were left disappointed in their pursuit of Germany international Julian Brandt this summer, according to a report
Manchester United have been beaten by Borussia Dortmund to the signing of Julian Brandt, according to a report in England.
The Manchester Evening News, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Red Devils made a last-ditch enquiry about the possibility of signing the promising Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.
The same article states that Leverkusen informed the 20-time English champions that Brandt was already on his way to Borussia Dortmund after the two German clubs reached an agreement.
The report goes on to reveal that Brandt’s move to Dortmund was finalised on Wednesday to compound Manchester United’s misery as executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward looks to help manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rebuild.
According to the same story, Manchester United are also set to suffer disappointment in their bid to sign Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
That’s because their failure to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League has undermined their efforts to sign the former Manchester City star, according to the report.
Manchester United finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table following a 2-0 loss to relegated Cardiff City on the final day of the season at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer’s side crashed out of the FA Cup and the Champions League at the quarter-final stage to finish the campaign without silverware in successive seasons.
