Trailing 1-0 from the first leg in north London last week, Tottenham had it all to do, and matters soon worsened when Ajax went 2-0 up in Amsterdam thanks to goals from Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech in the first half.
However, Lucas Moura was to be the star of the show in the second half, with the Brazilian having netted in the 55th and 59th minutes to level the tie on the night and set up a tense finale.
Tottenham looked to be heading out until deep into stoppage time, when Moura fired home a low finish into the bottom-right corner to complete his hat-trick and book Spurs’ place in their first ever Champions League final.
The final whistle sparked wild scenes of celebration in the Dutch capital and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was reduced to tears.
Former England and Spurs star Lineker took to Twitter after the final whistle and wrote: “Oh My God.”
Meanwhile, former defender Danny Higginbotham also chimed in with his response to the result, writing on Twitter: “Incredible from Spurs. What a second half performance. Drove Ajax back.
“Llorente substitution key. Not necessarily his impact but he created space for Moura and rest of Spurs midfield by playing high and separating Ajax midfield and defence. Magnificent!!!”
And finally, former Spurs defender Ledley King was clearly a happy man after the final whistle, writing on Twitter: “Omg unbelievable. I love this club #COYS.”
Tottenham will take on Liverpool FC in the Champions League final in Madrid on 1 June as they chase their first major trophy under Pochettino.
