Arsenal are “bracing themselves” for a bid from Atletico Madrid to sign Granit Xhaka this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror, as quoted by the Daily Mail, is reporting that the north London side are expecting the Spanish outfit to table a bid to try and sign Xhaka this summer.

According to the same story, Atletico Madrid have identified Switzerland international Xhaka as their first choice to succeed Rodri in midfield.

The same article, however, claims that Arsenal have no intention of selling Xhaka this summer despite Atletico Madrid’s attempts to prise him away from The Emirates.

Xhaka was a regular fixture in the Arsenal first team last season and made 40 appearances in all competitions for the north London side.

The 26-year-old midfielder scored four goals and made two assists in 29 Premier League games for the north London side.

Arsenal finished the season without a trophy after they were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea FC in the Europa League final last month.

The Gunners – who have not won the title since 2004 – finished in fifth place in the Premier League table to miss out on Champions League qualification for another season.
