Arsenal’s opening bid for Celtic star rejected – report
Arsenal have had an opening bid for Celtic star Kieran Tierney rejected by the Scottish club, say reports
Arsenal have had an initial bid for Kieran Tierney rejected by Celtic, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the Gunners’ opening offer of £15m has been turned down by the Scottish club, and the north London side have been told that the price for the 22-year-old starts at £25m.
According to the same story, Arsenal tried to tempt Celtic into a deal by offering fringe players such as Carl Jenkinson, Jordi Osei-Tutu, Emile Smith Rowe or Eddie Nketiah – but they were unsuccessful.
Despite the setback, the same article says that Celtic are “open” to the possibility of selling the left-back this summer – as long as their valuation of the Scot is met.
The same article says that Arsenal are expected to submit an improved offer for the left-back in the coming days as Unai Emery looks for his first signing of the summer.
Tierney is under contract at Celtic until 2023 and is currently recovering from a hernia operation.
Arsenal are thought to be on the lookout for a replacement for Nacho Monreal, 33, whose contract runs out this summer.
The north London side do not have the lure of Champions League football to attract potential signings this summer after they finished fifth and lost the Europa League final to Chelsea FC.
