French defender linked with Arsenal asks to leave Dortmund – report
Arsenal target Dan-Axel Zagadou asks to leave Borussia Dortmund following Mats Hummels' return, according to a report
Arsenal transfer target Dan-Axel Zagadou has asked Borussia Dortmund to allow him to leave the German club this summer, according to a report in Germany.
German media outlet Bild, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that Zagadou is eager to leave Borussia Dortmund to pursue a new challenge next season.
The same article states that France Under-20 international has asked for permission to seek a transfer away after Mats Hummels returned to Dortmund this summer from Bayern Munich.
According to the same story, Zagadou has fallen behind Hummels and Manuel Akanji in the pecking order at the Bundesliga runners up following the German centre-half’s return to the Westfalenstadion.
Bild go on to claim that Dortmund will look to charge £27m for the 20-year-old in the 2019 summer transfer window, which could prove a stumbling block for Arsenal.
The 6ft 5ins defender scored two goals in 19 games in all competitions last season, including 14 appearances in Dortmund’s Bundesliga campaign.
The German club signed Zagadou from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in a free transfer in June 2017.
Arsenal are thought to be eager to bolster their defensive options in the 2019 summer transfer window.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season and lost 4-1 to Chelsea FC in the Europa League final in Baku last month.
