Arsenal have contacted Leicester City about the possibility of signing midfielder James Maddison this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Gunners have enquired about the 22-year-old’s availability this summer – but the north London side have been quoted a figure of £60m for the England international.

According to the same story, the midfielder would be “interested” in a transfer to The Emirates this summer, but it is unlikely that Arsenal’s transfer budget will stretch that far following their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Maddison was in good form for Leicester City this season, scoring seven goals and making seven assists in 36 Premier League games for the Foxes.

The same article says that Arsenal’s transfer budget is thought to be just £45m after they missed out on a Champions League spot.

The north London side missed their chance to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition when they were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea FC in the Europa League final in Baku on Wednesday night.

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table in Unai Emery’s first campaign in charge of the north London side.
