Maurizio Sarri speaks out on Gonzalo Higuain’s Chelsea FC future
Maurizio Sarri says Gonzalo Higuain will return to Juventus after his loan spell at Chelsea FC
Maurizio Sarri is expecting Gonzalo Higuain to return to Juventus this summer after his quiet loan spell at Chelsea FC.
Higuain moved to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window on a six-month loan deal until the end of the season, but he failed to have much of an impact under Sarri at the west London club.
Chelsea FC were thought to have the option to make the 31-year-old’s move to Stamford Bridge permanent, but it seems that the Blues are not planning to take up this option.
Higuain managed to score five goals in 14 Premier League appearances for Sarri’s men in the second half of last season as they finished in third place in the table.
However, Sarri – who was unveiled as Juventus’ new manager this week – now says that he is expecting the Argentina international to return to Turin this summer.
Speaking in an interview quoted by The Sun, Sarri said: “He is a Juventus player, so when he returns from vacation, we’ll have the opportunity to talk.”
Asked if Higuain will remain at Juventus, he replied: “It depends on Gonzalo because I get the feeling he didn’t enjoy the post-Juventus experience and was a little shaken after that season, these things happen.
“If he can get a strong reaction, he can play another three to four years at a high level.”
Chelsea FC are currently on the lookout for a new manager as they search for a coach who will be able to guide them into the Champions League for next season.
The Blues won the Europa League in Sarri’s final game in charge, beating Arsenal 4-1 in the final last month.
