Italian media outlet Tuttosport, as quoted by the Daily Mail, is reporting that former Blues boss Antonio Conte wants to bring the Real Madrid midfielder to San Siro.
The same article states that Chelsea FC have the option to buy Kovacic following his season-long loan spell at the west London outfit following his move from Real Madrid last summer.
According to the same story, the Spanish giants are unable to guarantee that Kovacic will get regular first-team minutes at The Bernabeu under Zinedine Zidane next term.
Kovacic made two assists in 32 games in the Premier League last season to help the west London side finish in the top four in Maurizio Sarri’s first campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The Croatian midfielder featured in 12 of their Europa League games, including their 4-1 victory over Arsenal in the Baku final to secure a major trophy.
Kovacic failed to score a goal in a Chelsea FC shirt – but the World Cup finalist did make five assists in all competitions in what was a decent but not a spectacular campaign for the Croatian.
