Rio Ferdinand says Frank Lampard deserves a shot at the Chelsea FC job.

The former England international is the favourite to take over the reins of the west London side ahead of the new Premier League season.

Maurizio Sarri was appointed as Juventus manager earlier this month to bring to an end his brief 12-month stint in charge of the Blues.

The Italian manager won the Europa League and lead Chelsea FC to a third-placed finish but Sarri received a mixed reception from the supporters.

Lampard impressed during his first season in professional management after he steered Derby County to the Championship Playoff final.

Metro is reporting that Chelsea FC are prepared to pay £4m compensation to Derby for Lampard, but the Rams won’t finalise a deal until a replacement has been found.

Now, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has delivered his verdict on Lampard potentially becoming the next Chelsea FC manager.

“They should do it! I think he will get it,” Ferdinand is quoted as saying by Metro.

“Is he talking? I think he’s talking and I think he’s gonna get it. If he’s talking, he’s getting the job because he can talk.

“Frank, take the job man. Take it, Chelsea need you.

“I don’t care, he’s my friend. He should get the job, he deserves it.”

Chelsea FC finished in third place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League after a one-season absence.

The Blues have been served with a transfer ban for the next two transfer windows to prevent any incomings at Stamford Bridge.

However, Christian Pulisic will link up with the Blues squad after Chelsea FC agreed a deal to bring him in from Borussia Dortmund in January.
