Frank Lampard warned about becoming next Chelsea FC manager
Shaun Wright-Phillips believes Frank Lampard should wait a little longer before taking over the reins at Chelsea FC
Shaun Wright-Phillips has urged Frank Lampard to wait a little longer before taking over the reins of Chelsea FC.
Maurizio Sarri’s future at Stamford Bridge remains in doubt despite Chelsea FC finishing in third place and winning the Europa League crown in his debut season in west London.
The Italian head coach is being linked with the vacant Juventus role after the Serie A champions parted company with Massimiliano Allegri.
Lampard led Derby to the Championship play-offs in his first full season as a manager before the Rams lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the play-off final at Wembley.
The retired England international is Chelsea FC’s record goal-scorer as well as one of the most decorated Blues players in their long history.
Lampard won three Premier League titles, the Champions League crown, four FA Cups and two League Cups during a decorated spell at Stamford Bridge.
However, tis former Chelsea FC team-mate Wright-Phillips doesn’t believe it’s the right time for Lampard to take charge of the west London side.
“I think if Frank gets the job he’s going to bring a calm. He is ‘Mr Chelsea’. He knows what the club needs and how the football should be played for the fans to get back to enjoying it and fully supporting it,” said Wright-Phillips, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
Wright-Phillips added: “But if I was in Frank’s shoes I would wait a little bit longer before taking the job. Chelsea is not an easy job to step into and there is no point him stepping in and getting the sack within two years.
“He may as well continue progressing as a coach and then when he goes there he goes there for good. That’s what I would like to see him do but if he feels ready for it – and only he knows – he should jump at it.”
Chelsea FC appointed Sarri as Antonio Conte’s replacement last summer after the former Juventus won the Premier League and the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues finished in third place in the Premier League table last term, while Chelsea FC were 4-1 winners against Arsenal in the Europa League final.
