Liverpool FC could sign 29-year-old from Southampton – report
Liverpool FC are pondering a move to sign Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy this summer, say reports
Liverpool FC are pondering a move to sign Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Reds are keen on a move to bring the 29-year-old to Anfield because Simon Mignolet is set to leave the Merseyside outfit this summer.
The same article says that McCarthy is on Jurgen Klopp’s radar as the German manager looks for a new back-up goalkeeper at Anfield.
According to the same story, Liverpool FC considered a move for McCarthy last summer when it looked like a deal to sign Alisson Becker was going to be put on hold.
But the Reds landed the Brazil international and McCarthy ended up staying at Southampton.
McCarthy made 25 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season.
Liverpool FC are not widely expected to make wholesale changes to their squad this summer after their brilliant season in which they won the Champions League and came within a whisker of lifting the Premier League title.
The Merseyside outfit will be hoping to go one step further in the Premier League next season as they bid to try and wrestle the title away from defending champions Manchester City.
