Italian newspaper Il Mattino, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Reds have enquired about the availability of the defender as they look to try and bolster their squad this summer.
The same story says that Koulibaly has been a long-term transfer target of Manchester United and that the Red Devils have failed with “several” bids to sign the defender in the past.
The article says that Liverpool FC have now entered the fray and are interested in signing the 27-year-old this summer.
It is claimed in the same story that Napoli are refusing to budge on their £100m valuation of Koulibaly and that they are under no pressure to sell.
According to the article, Liverpool FC have made contact with Koulibaly’s agent, Fali Ramadani, to ask about availability of the defender.
And the Reds have been informed that a deal is possible as Jurgen Klopp looks for a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk in the centre of his defence, according to the same story.
Liverpool FC will be looking to challenge for the Premier League title next season after finishing just a point behind champions Manchester City last term.
