The Evening Standard is reporting that the 29-year-old is willing to complete a switch to the Merseyside outfit after losing his starting spot to Angus Gunn under Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
The same article states that Liverpool FC are one of a number of clubs interested in a potential swoop for the English shot-stopper ahead of the new Premier League season.
According to the same story, a number of clubs have already submitted bids for the former Reading goalkeeper in the current transfer window following his fall from grace at St Mary’s.
McCarthy started his career at Reading and broke into the Royals team in the 2010-11 season before the 29-year-old moved to Queens Park Rangers in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The England international has been on loan at eight different clubs before he established himself as Southampton’s first-choice goalkeeper in the 2017-18 campaign.
Liverpool FC signed Alisson Becker in a £67m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma last summer to replace Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet as Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The Brazilian was a key part of Klopp’s team as Liverpool FC won the Champions League last term.
