Nemanja Matic issues Man United warning ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s first full season
Nemanja Matic has his say ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first full season in charge of Man United
Nemanja Matic has warned his Manchester United team-mates that they must be focused from the off as the Red Devils prepare for their first full season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Manchester United endured a disappointing campaign last term as they ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy.
Solskjaer was brought in as Manchester United’s interim boss following the sacking of Jose Mourinho back in December, and the Red Devils opted to give him the role permanently back in March.
Manchester United officially completed their first signing of the summer transfer window on Wednesday when they concluded a deal to bring winger Daniel James to Old Trafford from Swansea City.
The Red Devils will be eager to start the campaign on the front foot, and midfielder Matic has highlighted the importance of beginning the campaign well.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports, Matic said: “I think we need to be focused from the first day, to prepare physically and to be ready mentally for the season which is in front of us.
“We [must] think positively. We want to win trophies, so I think everyone needs to be ready.”
He added: “The mood is always great. But last summer, because we had the World Cup, we had a shorter holiday and didn’t have as much time to rest.”
Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
The Red Devils have not won the Premier League trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge in the 2012-13 campaign.
