Man United warned about signing Real Madrid attacker this summer
Rene Meulensteen says signing Gareth Bale would be a "risk" for Man United this summer
Rene Meulensteen believes that Manchester United would be taking a “risk” by signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are believed to be on the lookout for reinforcements in multiple departments this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
Bale has been touted as a possible target for the Red Devils as the look to add to their attacking options this summer.
However, the Wales international has had his fair share of injury problems over the years, and Meulensteen feels that signing the Wales international would be something of a risky move for the Red Devils.
Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, as quoted by Metro, Meulensteen said: “You would obviously talk about bringing in a high-profile player in, but is Gareth Bale still at his best?
“We all know he’s had his fair share of injuries, so it’s always a risk.
“But, on the other hand, a top notch Gareth Bale is a really good asset for Manchester United.
“He brings power, he brings pace and he can create and score goals. It’s a bit difficult to see where he is at the moment, though.”
Manchester United confirmed their first signing of the summer last week when they announced that they had agreed a deal to land Daniel James from Swansea City.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season and missed out on qualification for next term’s Champions League.
Manchester United have not lifted a major trophy since their Europa League final triumph over Ajax back in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.
