Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly opens up about his future at the club amid reported interest from Man United
Kalidou Koulibaly has cast doubt on his future at Napoli amid interest from Manchester United.
The Senegal international has been regularly linked with a move to Manchester United over the past three or four seasons but a deal has failed to materialise.
Manchester United’s interest in the 28-year-old can be traced back to Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge of Old Trafford before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced the Portuguese manager in December.
The Red Devils boss is thought to be keen to boost his options at centre-half given Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling have all struggled with persistent injuries.
Metro is reporting that Napoli would want a world record transfer fee for a defender if the Serie A side are going to sell their prized asset this summer.
However, Koulibaly has offered Manchester United and other suitors some hope after he spoke about his future at Napoli while on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I don’t know [if I will be at Napoli next year], I think so,” Koulibaly told Goal.
“But I have to play the Afcon and then after that I’ll go back to Napoli.
“Everyone’s speaking about me, but I’m only speaking about Senegal, because that’s my objective today and I want to achieve something big with Senegal.
“I don’t want to talk about my future today, I prefer to talk about Senegal.
“Senegal achieved something great today. I am 200 per cent with Senegal and 200 per cent with the 15 million Senegalese people. ‘
“I’m relaxed, I want to focus on the Afcon and after that return to Napoli and we’ll see what happens.
“The most important thing now is to win with Senegal.”
Manchester United finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last term after conceding 54 times in 38 games in the top flight.
The Red Devils haven’t won a major trophy in the last two Premier League seasons.
Solskjaer will be tasked with overhauling the Manchester United side after a difficult spell under Mourinho.
