The Daily Mirror, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Gunners are hoping to bring the 22-year-old to The Emirates in a temporary deal for Unai Emery’s second season in charge of the north London club.
The same report says that the midfielder is poised to join Arsenal on a season-long loan, with the Gunners set to beat north London rivals Tottenham to his signature.
According to the same story, Arsenal are “confident” that they will be able to seal a deal for the midfielder as they set about bolstering their squad ahead of next season.
Arsenal will be looking to break back into the top four next season after they finished in fifth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last term.
The north London side missed out on the chance to seal qualification for next season’s Champions League after they lost 4-1 to Chelsea FC in the Europa League final back in May.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph under Arsene Wenger in the 2003-04 campaign.
