New Arsenal signing unveils Unai Emery’s role in transfer decision
New Arsenal signing Dani Ceballos talks up Unai Emey's role in the transfer
Dani Ceballos has described Unai Emery as the “turning point” in his decision to move to Arsenal on loan.
The Gunners completed the loan signing of Ceballos from La Liga giants Real Madrid on Thursday.
Ceballos was in-demand this summer after the new Arsenal signing impressed for Spain’s Under-21 side in the European Under-21 championship earlier this summer.
The 22-year-old had been linked with a potential move to Arsenal’s top-flight rivals Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur.
Ceballos will now get the chance to work with his fellow Spaniard Emery at the north London side.
Now, the new Gunners signing shed light on the role that Emery played in his decision to move to Arsenal.
“The coach was the turning point in terms of me joining this massive club,” Ceballos told Arsenal’s website.
“He’s a Spanish coach and he knows me from my time at other clubs. I’m really happy to be able to help Arsenal achieve our objectives.”
Ceballos added that Emery’s faith in the playmaker led to his decision to pick Arsenal over other Premier League clubs.
Ceballos added: “I knew I had the confidence of the coach, which was very important for me from the start.
“I was aware of the responsibility that wearing this shirt entails and it was a tremendously proud moment when I decided to join Arsenal.”
The Spain Under-21 international is one of three new arrivals at Arsenal after the Gunners also completed a deal for Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba on Thursday.
Arsenal signed Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli in a £1.6m deal from South American outfit Ituano earlier this summer.
The Gunners will be looking to improve upon their fifth-placed finish in Emery’s first season in charge.
Arsenal lost 4-1 to Chelsea FC in the Europa League final last term.
