Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the Gremio defender for quite some time ahead of a potential move.
The same article states that the Brazilian club value the 28-year-old defender at around £12m, which would certainly fit the profile of player that Arsenal are trying to sign this summer.
According to the same story, the Gunners would be open to paying such a transfer fee given Unai Emery has a limited budget to spend on summer signings ahead of the new season.
The report goes on to add that Arsenal could also face competition from their Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers for the experienced Gremio defender.
Arsenal conceded 51 times in 38 games in the Premier League last season to highlight their deficiencies at the back.
The Gunners were without England defender Rob Holding for most of the season due to a serious knee injury that he suffered in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford in December.
French defender Laurent Koscielny didn’t return to the Arsenal side until midway through the Premier League campaign.
