Frank Lampard sends open Chelsea FC message to Callum Hudson-Odoi
Frank Lampard wants Callum Hudson-Odoi to sign a new contract at Chelsea FC this summer
Frank Lampard has told Callum Hudson-Odoi that he wants the teenager to sign a new contract with Chelsea FC.
The 18-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge has been a source of speculation since January after Bayern Munich reportedly made a number of bids to sign him.
Hudson-Odoi’s current contract at Chelsea FC is set to expire at the end of next season, meaning that he could leave on a free transfer next summer and would be free to negotiate with foreign clubs in January as things stand.
The teenager is largely regarded as one of Chelsea FC’s brightest young talents, and Blues fans will be hoping to see the England international commit his future to the west London club.
Now, Lampard has spoken out about the situation and has urged the attacker to sign a new deal with the Blues.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Hudson-Odoi said: “One area is the football side which I’m completely involved in and the other is the negotiating which I’m not.
“So to say I’m confident would mean I know everything which I don’t quite, I leave that to the club.
“What I do know is that the club want Callum to sign. He’s a player who has come through the academy and broken into the England squad and is of course potentially a huge player now and in the future.
“Callum knows how I feel. I’ve spoken to Callum, I think he can be absolutely central to this team there is work to be done a lot of improvement which is only good news for all of us.
“He’s a really big talent. The fans love him here and we want young players. You can see others are signing up around him and it’s hopefully something that is going to be done.
“I haven’t seen too much of him I’ve spoken to him a couple of times because I want him to know how I feel.
“I have a real care for the players at this club, particularly the young ones. I think it’s important that I show that and then the decision will be his and the club’s together.”
Hudson-Odoi struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge under Maurizio Sarri in the first half of last season, but he was given more chances in the second half of the campaign, before he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.
