Frank Lampard issues Chelsea FC update on Ethan Ampadu
Frank Lampard reveals that Chelsea FC are keen for Ethan Ampadu to leave on loan for next season
Frank Lampard has confirmed that Ethan Ampadu is likely to leave Chelsea FC on loan this summer.
The 18-year-old has not travelled with the rest of the Chelsea FC squad to Japan for their pre-season tour and the new Blues boss has confirmed that the teenager could be shipped out for the forthcoming season.
Ampadu made only five first-team appearances under Maurizio Sarri last term and Lampard has revealed that the Blues are keen for the Wales international to get more playing time under his belt next season.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Lampard said: “Ethan is not here [in Japan] as we’re looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season.
“I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea.
“The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him and we haven’t brought him here while that is up in the air.”
Lampard was confirmed as Chelsea FC’s new manager earlier this month after Sarri opted to leave Stamford Bridge to take over at Juventus.
The Italian led Chelsea FC to a third-placed finish in the Premier League and the Europa League title, thanks to a 4-1 win over Arsenal in the final back in May.
Chelsea FC, who lost Eden Hazard to Real Madrid this summer, will be aiming to maintain their place in the top four next season in Lampard’s first campaign in charge, with the Blues set to welcome Christian Pulisic into their squad following his move from Borussia Dortmund.
